holy sonnet #14

as i crawl through the process of formulating my second paper for british literature, i stumbled upon a sonnet by john donne that demanded my attention. as i meditated over the carefully crafted words of this early 17th century poet, his sonnet slowly shaped itself into a prayer of my heart.

holy sonnet #14

Batter my heart, three-personed God; for you
As yet but knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend;
That I may rise adn stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force to break, blow, burn, and make me new...

yeah, this is actually the only thing i've enjoyed out of the entire class. it would be a much more fascinating class if we actually spent a substantial amount of time on the authors and their writings.
